The Most Unique Running Blog Ever

About a month ago I decided I would start a running blog.  Though I've written a few blogs in the past with varying levels of success, I hadn't done it in a while.  So, I didn't really know how it would turn out.  I've always enjoyed writing and my running had been experiencing a winter lull, and I hoped that this little side venture could keep me motivated.

So I started the Ordinary Marathoner blog.  Sort of a catchy name, don't you think?  In the future, I hope to develop Ordinary merchandise like Ordinary t-shirts, Ordinary hats, Ordinary boxers shorts, Ordinary mugs...

One of the first things I did was to start a Twitter account (follow me at @OrdMarathoner).  I followed a bunch of runners and tried to start getting myself entrenched in the running community.  But one of the first things I noticed was how many running blogs there are out there!  There are tons of them!  It seems as though one out of every one runner has a blog.

The themes typically vary from casual runner to elite runner.  Some focus on training, or diet or a mix of both.  Some have a bunch of product reviews or race reviews.  Some are personal stories, including many wonderful accounts of weight loss.  Still others were simply good beginning efforts that fizzled into multiple, "I'm Sorry I Haven't Written In A While, But I Promise I Will More Often" posts before becoming eternally mothballed.

But the one thing I do have to say is that I have no particular purpose or strategy with this site.  I am not an elite runner and having only been at this a little over a year, I am largely unqualified to be giving any kind of advice.  The weight loss story appeals to me, but I'm already down 65 pounds, I've largely plateaued at 212-220 pounds, and I don't have nearly enough "before" pictures.

It seems pretty much impossible for this blog to be "different" in any way, shape or form.  I am largely going to be relying on charm and wit, and hope that somehow that makes this blog unique enough for people to stop by from time to time.

Oh... the title of this post?  Yeah, that was just to get you here.  It was a total lie.  Now that you got through one blogpost though, maybe you'll come back sometime?

  1. Your blog cracks me up. It's true, there are a ton of running blogs (guilty). But it's fun to read other people's experiences, recipes, races, etc. you don't have to be "different." Just be you ;)

  2. Post your blog here Rachel... and I'll check it out. (I don't mind.) I agree - a lot of them are fun to read. I find the more honest and personal, the more I like it.
